For over 5 years, the Cullman Wellness and Aquatic
Center has been serving the Cullman community in all of its fitness, aquatic,
and health needs. When envisioned years ago by visionary leaders like Chester
Freeman, no one could have anticipated the success the center would have. The
old adage of “build it and they will come” could not be truer for the facility,
which met its 5 year goal in just 5 months, and to date is serving close to
13,000 members in the Cullman area. The center has made a major impact in
getting people more active, healthy, and involved throughout the community.
When the project was started, the tagline “building a stronger, healthier
community” was penned as the mission statement and purpose of the center. These
effects have been overwhelmingly seen in the thousands of members who have been
able to lose weight, stay in shape, and live a healthier lifestyle due to the
center’s offerings.
Since its inception, thousands have also flocked to
the center for a day at the pool, and the facility has also hosted such major
events as the state swim meet on 3 different occasions bringing in hundreds of
thousands of dollars to the local economy. After 5 years of operation, the
center has not been open to the public free of charge in its history; however,
to celebrate the success the center has had on the community, and to give
everyone the opportunity to see and use the facility for themselves, the center
will be open free of charge to members and non-members alike on Saturday,
January 3 for CP&R’s first ever Community Wellness Day.
The Community Wellness Day will be held at the
Wellness and Aquatic Center from 7am-1pm on Saturday, January 3 with the intent
of educating, motivating, and assisting the community in attaining the number
one New Year’s Resolution across the world, which is living a healthier
lifestyle in the coming year. The Community Wellness Day will feature speakers
on the topics of nutrition, building a workout program, wellness, and other
related topics. A health fair will also take place featuring several local
businesses and organizations relating to maintaining a healthier lifestyle.
Featured fitness and aquatic classes will also take place during the day
including Zumba, spin, aerobics, water aerobics, and more. In addition, the center
will also be offering free enrollment fee on any memberships to the Wellness
and Aquatic Center, and will be giving away a one year free membership in the
Polar Bear Plunge that will take place on January 3 along with the
Wellness Day. All activities are free to attend in an effort to truly make a
lasting impact of creating a stronger, healthier community.
CP&R is dedicated to providing opportunities to
the community to maintain the strongest level of health and wellness as
possible. Over the next year, CP&R plans to launch a large scale campaign
promoting a healthier lifestyle through exercising, nutrition tips, and other
aspects to build a healthier community. This initiative will involve all of our
parks and recreational facilities, and will be designed to make it as easy as
possible to have a better quality of life through healthier choices. We
encourage the entire community to come kick-start this campaign with us at the
Community Wellness Day on Saturday, January 3, 2015 from 7am-1pm as a first step
towards reducing obesity, disease, and other harmful practices in our
community. Come join us in building a stronger, healthier community!
