Announcing the CP&R Junior Tennis League

You asked, we answered! For years we have been asked, "Why do you guys not have a year round tennis program or league for kids?" Today is the much anticipated day for the tennis enthusiasts in the community.

CP&R will hold an interest meeting for its Junior Tennis league on Tuesday, July 8 at 5pm at the Cullman Wellness & Aquatic Center. All interested participants, parents, or individuals are encouraged to attend. The tennis league will start with ages 12 & under, and plans are in the works to expand the program through age 18, and possibly to adult ages in the near future. The program will be a year-round addition to the parks and recreation department, with lessons, practices, and games being held throughout the year. The program will be an affiliate of the United States Tennis Association (USTA).

Coaches, volunteers, and other support are needed and are encouraged to attend the July 8th interest meeting. For more information on the tennis league, contact Cameron Everett at or Waid Harbison at

We hope to see everyone on July 8th in an effort to support and promote the sport of tennis in and around our community!

Featured Activity of the Month: Foam Rolling

After a tense week, or a difficult workout you need to take time to stretch and relieve muscle soreness and tension. One of the best ways to relieve and restore normal muscle function is through the practice of self-myofascial release, or foam rolling. It’s a simple way to massage muscles and speed up the recovery process without having to schedule a weekly appointment with your massage therapist (score!). This method of recovery can break-up adhesions and scar tissue that cause muscle tightness. Don’t get ahead of yourself though. Foam rolling can be uncomfortable, but should not be unbearable. But why would you willingly do something to your body that hurts? If you have ever had a deep tissue massage, you know it can be uncomfor…

What is the Power of Produce?

If you are a fan of fresh produce you have probably visited the Farmer’s Market at Festhalle Market Platz in the Warehouse District of Cullman. From April to October, the market bodes the freshest fruits and vegetables you can find. But, are there some fresh ingredients that you aren’t sure how to prepare? Or, are there certain foods that your children refuse to eat? Luckily, the Power of Produce (POP) program is back for the 2017 market season to try and help to convert your picky eaters! So, what exactly is the POP program? POP is targeted toward children ages 12 and under and their parents. It is a produce tasting program designed to make it easier for kids and adults to try new, healthy foods. Sometimes, it is not the kids that are picky and unwilling to try new foods, it’s the parents. This program presents the opportunity to step out and try new foods, by sampling recipes that feature these fruits and vegetables. The program not only allows the sampling of the produc…
