11 Things for Your Child to do this Summer at CP&R

Summer time is just around the corner! Long summer days, visits to the park, riding bicycles around town, ice cream, swimming, and fresh crisp air - EVERYONE loves summertime. So with school letting out and lots of free time for your child, what are you planning for this summer? CP&R is here to help with dozens of opportunities for your child and the entire family. Here are the top 11 things for your child to do this summer at CP&R!

1. Camp Cullman
Come join CP&R's daily summer camp held Monday-Friday from 7:45am-5:15pm. Camp Cullman is one of our most classic programs that kids of all ages love; the program is open to ages 5-12 and includes swimming, games, arts and crafts, movies, daily outings, field trips to places like the Birmingham Zoo and the Atlanta Aquarium. Camp Cullman is registering now at the Cullman Civic Center, and cost is just $100 per week!

2. Just Play!
CP&R's newest program is not only fun, it's also FREE! Just Play will take place every Friday from 1-3pm in June & July at a different CP&R park each week. The program will feature organized games, activities, and fun from relay games, capture the flag, and much more. This program is available to ages 5-12. Check out our website for a lineup for the whole summer!

3. Dive-in & Drive-in Movies
Come bring the entire family to enjoy a FREE Drive-in Movie or a Dive-in Movie by the pool for just $5! Drive-in Movies are held once per month in June & July on the field in front of Nesmith Pool starting at dark and are FREE to attend. Dive-in Movies are held once per month in June, July, & August at the Cullman Wellness & Aquatic Center at dark. Members may attend for free and non-members can come enjoy a swim and a movie BOTH for just $5 per person!

4. NEW Art Classes
CP&R's NEW Art Program is kicking off this summer with something for all ages! A Homeschool Art Class will be held on Thursday afternoons at 3pm for an 8 week session June 4-July 30 . Cost  is $6 per class or $40 for the entire class. A Mommy & Me Class will also be held for preschool age children (ages 5 & under) on Tuesdays at 10am. The class will run for 8 weeks from June 2-July 21; cost is $50 for the program.

5. Youth Tennis Camps
If your child is interested in tennis or improving their tennis skills, we have a multitude of tennis for you! Weekly clinics will start on June 1 with beginners meeting on Monday and Wednesdays and intermediate on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Tennis Camps will begin on June 15th as well! 6. Summer Track & Field
Get your child out to the races this summer to learn how to sprint, jump, and throw! CP&R's Summer Track and Field team is a competitive USATF team that will allow your child to become faster, stronger, and a better all-around athlete. Your child will also get to focus on traditional track and field events such as long jump, high jump, hurdling, javelin, shot put, and many more. Practice starts June 1 and a mandatory meeting of participants will be held May 21 at 6pm at the Cullman Wellness & Aquatic Center.

7. FREE Concerts in the Park
Bring your entire family to enjoy our FREE Concerts in the Park series at Heritage Park. Concerts will take place every Thursday in July at 6pm in the recognition gardens in the park. Concerts will  range from country music, bluegrass, rock, and more. Bring your lawn chair or a blanket and some snacks for this fun and FREE event!

8. Swim Lessons
If you have a child between the ages of 3-6 that needs to learn to swim, we can help you out! Group swim lessons will be held at the Cullman Wellness & Aquatic Center starting the first week in June during three different sessions. Lessons will be held at the outdoor pool at either 8am or 9am each morning. For details or to register for lessons, call 256-775-SWIM.

9. Archery Camps
CP&R will hold 3 archery camps this summer from June 1-3, June 16-18, and July 20-24.These camps will include fun games, educational information, and lots and lots of Archery! The July 20-24 date will also feature a shoot with the pro's session at the national Archery Shooter's Association tournament to be held at St. Bernard Abbey in Cullman on July 24.

10. Jr. Golf Clinics
Get your summer on par with our Jr. Golf Clinics at the Cullman Golf Course! Clinic will be held each Tuesday from June 2-30 and will focus on driving, putting, aim, and other necessary golfing skills taught by our PGA Golf Pro, Ches Harris. Cost is $60 for the session or $15 per each clinic. Call ahead to register at 256-739-2386!

11. Gymnastics & Cheer Recreation Classes
Cullman Gymnastics & Cheer Academy will start registering for summer recreation classes May 18, and classes will start on Monday, June 8! Classes range from tumbling, gymnastics, stunts, preschool, Kindergym, and more. Call 256-739-6762 for cheer and tumble classes, or 256-739-5567 for gymnastics classes!

The second circuit for our Heritage Park fitness equipment is here! Modify these exercises to meet your specific needs.
